CAPTIVE IN COVENTRY

Reports from behind the lines in the Coventry 'Green-Zone'

Day 1 - Wednesday
Day 2 - Thursday
Day 3 - Friday

Greetings from behind the lines.

SATURDAY NIGHT AUG 14:

Once we heard that the end of the line was up at Croteau's
you could feel that something was about to come to an end.
The subdued tone of the crowd and the setting sun spoke of
journey's end almost completed. Once the last vehicle had
gone over the bridge we found ourselves looking out the windows
every 30 seconds, but not seeing anything now but the tall
grass in the fields and the green darkening woods.

Peaceful straggler vibes from Johnson, Vt

But not all of the fun and games were done yet.
About 7:45 these 2 peaceful guys showed up in the driveway
from Johnson, Vt. They had left 45 minutes ago and got
up here with no problem. They were looking to get IN.
It sounded like they had no tickets, 2 mountain bikes and
a compass between them. I didn't see any backpacks.
I gave them the spiel about 'Park and Walk' and warned them
about the swamps down along the river and the chainlink fence
at the airport. They said 'thanks man, love your peace sign,
this place feels real good', and then they headed back to the
truck. 5 minutes later I see them talking with Karen and all
of a sudden they are hiking up the hill behind the house into
the woods, without their bikes. Good luck brothers.

Straggler No. 2

An hour later straggler # 2 showed up from Burlington, Vt It only
took him 2 hours and he didn't have any trouble either. He had tickets for
sure and was just trying to find out what the overall deal was. The
Coventry Station Rd barricade trooper told him they were letting
people walk past the barricade if they had tickets. We told him
to stay in the car and drive around. By now the parade was probably
almost to the airport gates and he shouldn't have any problems.

So it has quieted down considerably here. But there's still more
work to be done making ourselves available to the Phishheads. They'll
probably be showing up in drips and drabs as they try to get to the
final show tomorrow night. The forecast is for rain tomorrow, but
not all day and maybe ending before the first set at 5PM. Sounds
like Phish PR to me, but who knows, we'll see.

As we lay in bed tonight long after the band has finished the last set
(which we cannot hear by the way over the mile and a half of trees)
the lights of the campsite are illuminating the horizon again,
the odd firecracker goes off every once in awhile, and we wonder
about the fate of our 2 Johnson, Vt compatriots wandering through
the woods towards the shining lights on the horizon.
